FOUNDER

RODRIGO GUTIERREZ

Corialent

12 years ago, Rodrigo decided that the Coca Colas of the world shouldn’t be the only ones who get to have all the fun in the advertising industry. He was sick of all the dull, corporate, navy blue and white B2B work out there. Business people are people too. Corialent specializes in B2B marketing that doesn’t suck. And they want to get the rest of the industry drinking that delicious KoolAid.

Sales Techniques

There is more than one approach to closing a sale. That might sound like obvious advice to an experienced sales professional, but in the end the truth is that most sales people do not use a large arsenal of closing techniques for closing sales. Instead, they only have a few go-to closing techniques, and even those techniques rarely work well to close a sale. In this article we will look at how you can use these techniques to close more sales, and in so doing, create a more effective sales career. After reading this article, you should be able to put closing techniques into practice.

The first technique we are going to look at is the "objection trap." This is where the prospect resists the offer because they have some objections that can be overcome through a more developed sales technique. The problem is that many sales people resist approaching a prospect with a sales technique simply because they have some objections. They either have a weak understanding of the potential problem, or they are trying to solve a larger problem that the prospect is more concerned about.

The key to avoiding the objection trap is to develop a series of consultative sales techniques that you can use to address any objection that the prospect may have. This means that you need to learn to identify potential objection and take them on in your presentation. The more you can do this, the better prepared you will be to address them in your closing strategy. The ultimate goal of this series of consultative sales techniques is to develop a deep understanding of your prospect, gain their trust, and then empower you to resolve their objections once and for all.

Another common problem that salespeople have is using the "pitch over the roof" style of selling. There is nothing wrong with this style of selling, as many sales people have made a tremendous amount of money doing it. The problem is that it rarely gives the intended result. The purpose of this style of selling is to create an avalanche of product offers in hopes of quickly building a huge sales list.

Unfortunately, most sales techniques don't work like this. Instead, what usually occurs is that a salesperson follows up with a qualified sales pitch after having made several unqualified calls. It is at this point that the salesperson becomes frustrated and starts asking questions. When a prospect sits down with you to talk about your business, you should never start the sales process with a sales pitch. Instead, begin the sales process by asking questions, and taking the time to listen to what the prospect has to say.

Most sales techniques involve the sales team asking questions when they encounter a lead. Unfortunately, these questions often turn into a game of 'one-upmanship'. In other words, a salesperson might ask, "Do you know where you last checked out?" And a customer might respond, "No, I don't keep tabs on what goes in the washing machine." While both of these examples are correct, the problem here is that the customer may have hundreds of reasons why he or she doesn't check out a particular product line more often. An effective selling sales technique is always to determine the real reason a prospect doesn't check out your products and then ask questions to find out why they are declining to purchase your products.

Another common sales technique is to use the 'sales' objection'. A sales objection is simply a question or argument you use to convince a prospect that your product or service is not what they think it is. While this can be a very powerful tool, it should only be used as a last resort. If you continue to use a sales objection in all of your marketing communications, you will discover that the objections you are creating will cause you to lose more prospects than you are already losing.

One of the most important aspects of utilizing sales techniques effectively is to understand how to properly identify prospect objections. You can do this through constant practice. Try not to allow any questions or concerns about your product or service to arise in any conversation with a potential client. Once you have answered each question about your product or service, you can then move on to closing the sale and ensuring that you receive the order you have been seeking.
